Real Experience At Work
With A Proven Track Record
w elcome to my official website. It is an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of South Carolina District 19 and statewide.
As your Senator, I am committed to building a reputation as a strong independent voice while working with both Democrats and Republicans to find common-sense solutions to issues facing South Carolina.
Despite a tumultuous year with fiscal and internal challenges, record unemployment, and the highly anticipated focus on redistricting (the result of population change recorded in the 2010 Census), I want to take this opportunity to highlight areas in which a modification was made or a new law enacted. Those areas include
- Automobile Insurance;
- Courts/Criminal Law Enforcement;
- Family, Health Safety;
- Natural Resources;
- State and Local Government;
- Taxes, Bonds; and
- Economic Development.
On my Legislation page, you will find a summary of several key actions taken by the General Assembly, along with specific areas in which I was engaged. As the key sponsor of two important bills - Early Voting and Mental Health Word Change - you will find a commentary on each.
Especially for students, a link has been added to the SC Statehouse Student Connect. It is a great way for students to be connected to and learn about the operating functions of the Legislature and state government.
Also featured are our District’s Appointees, including four Magistrates, the Executive Director for the Board of Elections and Registration, and the on-going service of a Commissioner for the SC Department of Transportation.
Let me thank Ethel Brewer, LCB Enterprise Editing, and Namon Henderson, Henderson’s High Tech Web Design, for their outstanding collaboration on the production of this website.
I hope you will find these updates informative and interesting. Thank you again for allowing me to serve as your Senator.
Senator John L. Scott, Jr.
